The Areca chair is an office chair for long hours, designed by ITO Design for people who spend the whole working day at their desk.

Designed according to the principles of ecodesign and durability, Areca interprets the contemporary office chair through a balance of comfort, functionality and sustainability. The ability to replace and upgrade the main components helps preserve the product’s value over time, reducing waste and encouraging a more responsible approach to furnishing workplaces.

Available in Mesh and Fabric versions, Areca meets different aesthetic and functional needs while keeping a shared design identity. The mesh backrest enhances visual lightness, breathability and dynamic comfort, while the upholstered version offers a warmer, more welcoming look. Thanks to the interchangeable backrest and seat, the chair can be adapted over time to new work settings or to different user preferences.

Ergonomic adjustments: lumbar support, armrests and seat depth

Its ergonomic performance is supported by a system of adjustments designed to deliver personalised comfort throughout the working day. The lumbar support, adjustable in height and depth, adapts to each user’s body shape, while the adjustable armrests optimise arm support and posture during daily work. Seat depth adjustment, with up to 70 mm of travel, ensures correct load distribution on the thighs and adapts the chair to users of different heights.

The ergonomic system is completed by the self-adjusting synchronised mechanism, which automatically adapts backrest resistance to the user’s weight, ensuring smooth, balanced movement with no manual adjustment needed. Fully integrated into the seat, the mechanism contributes to an essential, contemporary aesthetic defined by clean lines and careful attention to every detail. It features an all-plastic design, developed without the metal elements that are generally found in conventional office chair mechanisms. This design choice simplifies end-of-life management, making disposal and recycling easier by eliminating the need to separate plastic and metal parts.

The result is a versatile, high-performance office chair for long hours, designed to keep pace with evolving workspaces while maintaining high standards of comfort, quality and sustainability.
